If it has 30" tires is it really stock? I would say 80 down a steep hill 30 up a steep hill. kinda like a rolls canardly.

Bone Stock?
25mph. in 3rd gear flooring it.
LOL
i know mine was a dog with just 235's

Manual trans... 3spd auto or 4 speed auto? If 3spd auto were 5:12 ggears installed? Need more info to answer the question.

Thanks for all the replys, it is a manual 5 speed not sure of the gear ratio but the engine does not put out enough power to even use fifth gear. Any suggestions other than an engine swap for alittle more power. I already have thorley headers and a two inch exhaust on it. I also would like to keep it so it will pass vehicle emissions if I put on a weber carb will it pass emissions?
Thanks

I believe a stock sammi comes with 205/75/15 tires. They will measure up at about 26-27" depending on the manufacturer.
With 30" tires you will lose on the final gear ratio and yes 5th gear will be useless. For more oomph I would suggest a set of 4:62 gears from a Track/Kick be swapped in. Maybe even 5:12 diff gears as well.
Here are some calculators to help you find out some proper ratios to work with your application.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like my friends Samurai when it ran on 3 cylinders :P. It only had 205's on it. We rebuilt the engine 2 years ago just about, but we havent started it because we havent had the time or money to finish other things on it.

All samurai's have a 5 speed manual tranny. ;)
Stock samurai diff gears are 3.727 (most people round to 3.73). So you could swap lower gears in.....4.62 or 5.12.
5th gear ratio on an 87 samurai would be .795. So you could swap a later model (88.5+) tranny in for a .865 5th gear ratio.
Swampers are heavy a$$ tires....so you generally need lower gearing with swampers than say with some radial MTs.

If ther drivetrain does not have any really weird mods to it, you should be able to calculate how fast you can go in a Samurai in any gear with a specific diameter tire by using the Gear Calculator at Ack's FAQ:
Ack's Samurai Gear Calculator (http://www.acksfaq.com/gearcalc/gearcalc-01-04-07.php)
It includes all the common transfer case gear and differential ratios. You plug in the engine RPM and the actual diameter of the tire along with the gearing to get ground speed.
Hope that this helps!
