Does anyone know where to go in the Toronto Area for reliable Suzuki installs? I picked up 1" coil spacers from the Rocky-Road website and didn't want to try installing them on my own. Its too bad there is a "Just Jeeps" garage in Oakville but i'm obviously not going to show my face around there. Any Suzuki or general 4x4 shops in T.O. that people would recommend?

Don't know how you do things north of the border, but here in the US the BBB (better business bureau) is a good starting place to check out a business' reputation. I would think Canada has a BBB or something similar.

You're worried about this just for a spring spacer?
Find a mechanic you trust or one that's recommended to you and go in for an oil change.
Then, actually TIP the son-of-a-bitch a few dollars--because as all Floridians know, Canadians don't tip.
Then go back to that guy to do your spacers, tip him AGAIN, and keep going back to him.
Not trying to make a joke here or bash Canadian tipping habits, but if you want a guy to go the distance for you and make that extra effort to get it right, you gotta do the same thing.
And not 2 bucks either--10 to 20.

Things work differently here in Canada pal, you charge for the work that you do, you do good work and don't expect more. It's different in the food service industry but tipping is not expected in the trades.
Try Holts Offroad in Oakville (between Bronte Rd and Third Line on Wyecroft south side) they are a reputable shop if you do not want to do the work yourself. You could also got to National 4wd in Burlington.

Plus, I really doubt that American service sucks compared to Canada. In fact, I know that to be untrue.
So in other words, Canadians visit the U.S., they don't tip at restaurantts aeven thought they know it's not included in the check, yet they do this because the service is BAD here!?
Talk about arrogant PRICKS!!! And CHEAP!!!!
How the hell can you argue against tipping a mechanic who does a good job for you? What the hell is your problem with TIPPING!?

Canadians tip well, just ask any good looking girl working at Tim Horton's (because we only tip the good looking ones)

I'm Canadian and I always tip well for people in the food service industry cause their hourly wage sucks arse. But as far as the mechanic pulling in $25-30 an hour...I tip him with my repeat business. In Costa Rica I tip everyone for services cause it doesn't matter what industry they work in their pay sucks. Ira, living in florida made you an expert on Canadian tipping habits ::) . Doesn't matter where you are from though...there are cheap pricks everywhere. My 2cents.

I'm in Toronto and it's hard to find a mechanic to do work like this a reasonable rate. Check out the local 4x4 shops, but they would rather install the stuff they sell. I would mostly recommend you try it yourself. Just takes some basic tools. I did mine in about 2.5 hours the first time and 1.5 hours the second time. You will love working on your trucklet, and it lets you brag a little more when your friends can't believe what your truck can do!.
As for tips.....Canadians vs. U.S. take it to the water cooler and tell me what the current % rate is or should be?

I sell coil spacers to a guy that owns an import car shop in Fonthill, he's installed every set I've sent him. Are you close to there? If so, I can give him your information.
Here in NS we have a couple "Jeep Shops" but they will still install on other brands, just ask ;) They may be slow and not want to turn down money.

Tip a mechanic and they think you are made of money and will attempt to rip you off up here. They get paid just fine for there work so why should I tip a guy for doin what he does for a living... This is a trade... not a restauraunt or a Dennies.
We pay farr too much in this country for alot of things... If you can afford to tip a mechanic then thats fine.
In Canada if you want something done well from a mechanic we buy them coffee... Every mechanic I have met... (including myself) will go the extra mile if ya just buy them a Tim Hortons coffee :)

I'm in Brampton... For $25/hour I'll install yer lift. Thats cheeper than any $60-100/hour for a shop rate. Takes about 4-6 hours to install coils depending on the year and if bolts are gonna break when I take them out due to salt corrosion.

I don't even do my own oil changes, and here in south Florida, a lot of mechanics lease their own bay space. They're not hourly employees. So I drive like 20 miles to see Charlie:
62 years old, and I trust him a thousand times more than any young shmuck working at Pep Boys for 11 bucks an hour.
Same cost for the oil change more or less...but I always throw him 10 extra bucks...and I'm being lectured that you're going to get good service and attention in Canada just because you're supposed to and that mechanics shouldn't expect tips?
I just don't buy it. It's called capitalism, and there's nothing wrong with showing a mechanic your appreciation for the job he's doing for you. For God's sake, he DESERVES it.

I think the idea is that the man asked for assistance in finding a decent garage here in Canada to work on his rig and not a lesson in how to tip properly. Stick to the content of the thread and guys won't call you names!

You have it wrong(read the posts again), he called you that because you made a stereotypical judgment towards Canadians... so I guess you rubbed him(and others) the wrong way, but that doesn't mean he was right to name call. Now kiss and make up, we can't choose where we're from ;)
