Title: Refinishing white rag to black?
Post by: Ira on September 02, 2007, 11:38:03 AM
Since I "installed" jet black front seat covers to cover the soccer mom's grey plus almost black with a tinge of pink color scheme that Chevy thought everyone would love with their Tracker, my grey sun visors were bugging the hell out of me, standing out and ugly:

Grey just doesn't fit in with my scheme of things.

So I just recolored those visors black using that Dupli-Color stuff in the can--and they came out AWESOME. And real easy to work with it too.

So...

Since I have a white rag in good condition, except it looks just a tad worn color-wise (it's not bright white any longer), plus the fact that I don't WANT white and planned on getting a black top by Xmas anyway, do you think this same stuff will work for exterior use, where UV and weather is a concern?

But listen--I'm not a total retard as far this idea goes. However, if you disgaree, feel free to tell me so:

I was thinking of first just recoloring the two side windows, being careful to mask out and keep clean the transparent plastic. If it lasts or doesn't last…and since I planned on getting a new top anyway...couldn't this be considered a justifiable experiment?

I say there's a very good chance it will just wear off.  but if your getting a new top anyhow, i say just go for it.
