Can anyone who has done this or know someone who has done this give me some info on what all I would need? Maybe give me a link to where I could get the info? The search feature ain't working again for me today. I know I need the axle, leafs (make it easier), wheel spacers, steering linkage?? Can I use the stock driveshaft?? I'm keeping the the rear axle stock and and gonna use 3in lift springs with 2in spacers, Maybe use a custom rear a-arm and i think maybe a 2in driveshaft spacer?? Any info is greatly appreciated!!

I would also like to install a sammy axle on my sidekick but with a coil setup. It would be nice if someone would come out with a kit.

....But why?

if your gonna do an sas, why wouldnt you use a stronger axel ?
constructed different, the strengths are about equil so you are not gaining nothing but flex(which is overrated). I did an sas with toyota axles more for strength than flex(although it does flex wickedly)
IMO you are doing a whole lot of work for no gain!

I am in the middle of a SAS with a cj D30 and i figured up the other day that if i would have went with a sammy axle that i would have saved almost $800us. Yes the D30 is a stronger axle under a track/kick or sammy but i dont wheel that hard i go out and crawl around and climb hills and go through some mud. so the sammy axle can hold up to 33s with a yota 22r(my friend has one and he does some pretty serious wheeling and hes locked in the front)
So you gotta ask yourself are you gonna wheel real hard, and are you gonna run a 33in+ tire or lock it? i think that if you would be sorta senceable about it you should be fine. You would save money on the drive shaft, steering, and gears if you would go with the sammy axle. plus be a few less headaches and even fewer if you would go leaf sprung with YJs or sammy leafs.
On another Suzuki site i was basically told that i was an idiot to even think about doing that. but you gotta decide what is best to you and your budget.
here is a build up on a track with a sammy axle with sammy leafs

A sami axle is not wide enough for a Sidekick. If I recall it is about 3 inches to narrow. This can be overcome with spacers but why. Toy axles are the correct width and much better. Dave

To save money, if you go with the sammy axle with leafs it can be done relatively easily and you can use the same rims as your current trackick. if you aren't planning going bigger then 33's then this is an ideal solution if you're cheap like me.

Well I have a local freind that has done the Sammi SAS swap in the front. It works well and really only took him a day to do this setup. He even used Sammi leafs in front for this swap and it basically bolted right in place with a bit of welding for leaf spring tabs. Turns out that the width between the leafs is damn near dead on with the width of the frame... (Was someone at GM/Suzuki thinking of this before??)
About the only thing they had to make was a new drive shaft for the front, and was told it was actually harder cutting all the IFS crap out than the install.
Yes they used 1.5" wheel spacers and it sits just right on 31" tires. By the looks of it is they wanted to go with larger tires it would not be much of an issue at all.

I don't mind that blue Tracker at all. I kinda wish I could do that, but I doubt I really NEED it... There are actually a few advantages to running the Sammy axle:
- you can run the same wheels front and back (Toys are 6 bolt, Zuks are 5)
- I think your steering isn't too difficult to set up
- Sidekick 5.12 gears can be swapped into a Samurai diff

Thank you that is the track i was looking for and i couldnt find it.

Adding Newfields will increase the Sammy axle strength quite considerably. This finally makes the Sammy axle a viable swap to the Kick. Retaining the rear axle means less fab work and less cost, and adding 4340 shafts to the Kick rear beefs that up considerably as well.
Go for it. Do it right and you'll prolly find other will follow your lead.

My concern is the rear lift. The reason I wanna do SAS is more lift and flex. How the hell do I get the rear axle up to say...6 inch lift? The trailing arms wouldn't be long enough and i would have to fab some kind of spacer for the rear a-arm that would rotate the axle to fix the pinion angle. It just sounds like alot of work for a college student who work full time like I do. I may just go with the calmini combo lift...easier and still way better flex then stock

whateverworks,
Have you ridden in the blue kick? I have a built samurai and love my IFS ride of my side kick, but for off road I prefer solid axle. How does the ride and drivability compare to the IFS. If it still rides good, I would like to do the same. my side kick is a DD and want it to stay that way...
