I gotta hold of a canadian pony carb and was thinking of cleaning up my engine compartment. Not sure if it needs rebuilt. I think it is a factory samurai carb but not sure. Since I get 28 mpg around town and a little more on the highway, I'm hesitant to change anything. Only thing is that I understand you get a significant power increase with the pony carb.
How much would I loose in gas milelage though?.
What kind of improved performance could I expect?
If it needs rebuilt, where do I get a rebuild kit or could I send it off to get rebuilt and pre tuned so all I gotta do is bolt and go?
I sure would like to loose those vacuums but hate to sacrifice too much mileage.
I know there are all kinds of performance carbs upgrades but I don't want to drop to 20 mpg unless it's one hell of a power increase. I don't have huge amounts of money, just stuff to trade or sell and not alot of time to do that. Ideally I could get it sargified on the intake like the weber on ebay.

If you are getting 28MPG, I'd say stay with the Hitachi!
It's them hoses, relays and valves that make that mileage happen!

You're probably right. I just thought maybe if this was a factory carb for Canadian samurais, it was maybe engineered to get good gas mileage without all the hoses along with more power but maybe a bit more polluting. I have know idea what kind of mileage they're good for.

Ditto.Stick with the Hitachi, and accept the ugliness under the hood. That is my least favorite thing about my 91 Sidekick.

Maybe I just better save up for fuel injection. I don't think I can go wrong there. Maybe it would be compatible with the cam and header I want to install one of these days. 8) 8)
