Title: steering knuckle oil fill?

I just bought an 87JX and am in the process of fixing it up,how do you put oil in these knuckles, I don't see a filler plug? ???

the knuckles do not take oil they take grease. the center section takes oil. if you have oil leaking out around the knuckles then the seal on between the knuckle and the housing(around the axle shaft) is toast. its a good idea to tear the knuckles down and redo the seals/felts/kingpins bearings and repack the birfields at the same time.

grease huh! what do you fill the cavity up and then shove your axle in???what kind of grease?

You only really need to grease up the Birfields.  I just use heavy duty bearing grease in mine, they seem to keep working.  Just make sure to pack them up well.

As for the kingpin bearings, just pack them like you would a normal bearing and you should be fine.

DO NOT fill the knuckle with grease, just the CV itself.
