Title: roof rack bolts
Post by: jeff1997 on September 10, 2007, 06:50:22 PM
Has anyone ever taken the factory roof rack off of a 4dr. Sidekick? There are 4 mounts that screw on through the top with 2 philips head screws each. My question is are thay all the way through the top or should they come out from the outside? I tried taking one off and it just spun. I thought I'd ask before I took down the headliner to get at the nuts. I made a cargo rack for the top of my Kick and am planning to use these mounts to attach it. Any help would be appreciated.

On my 95 4-dr, the bolts are not backed up by nuts.  Three came out just fine, but the fourth was a spinner.  I got it out, I think by getting just enough clearance to get a standard screwdriver underneath the head to cam it up while turning the Phillips.  You shouldn't need to mess with the headliner.

Thanks, I figured out how they go in and just put new longer bolts with nuts and flat washers on the other side. I needed to secure the existing rack better in order to install my new cargo rack. I just made a 40"x 66"x 6" deep safari rack that will hold my spare and all kinds of junk

Not yet it is not done. When I get it finished I'll try to post some pics.
