Title: Decent deal on this Sammy?
Post by: homer77 on September 11, 2007, 04:56:07 PM
I am looking at buying my first Sammy.  It will be used as a daily driver and also 4 wheeling in my spare time.  It is an '87 with a 1.6l 8v swap with about 70, 000 miles, runs good, soa with 31" tires, new rag top, 1/2 top, back seat, decnt body, spray on bediliner on inside.  it did have some rust in the 1/4 panels, but said he removed it.  The only leaks are from the proportioning valve.  It is in Cali.  Asking $2000.  What do you guys think?  Decent price, maybe an idea of what I should offer?

Thanks,
Jesse

My 2cents - $2000 for what you described seems fair, look on ebay and compare, do search and type in samurai. Is mileage of 70K for the engine swap? or total? Eithe way seems fair to me. If you want you can offer $1500 and settle at $17-18 if sellers goes for it. IMO.

That sounds like a fair price to me also. In the Sacramento Ca.  area,  Sams in fair to good condition go as  little as $1500 to as much as $3000.... But $3000 is about all you can get for a Sam no matter how many mods or ad ons are done. If you are patient you can pick up a running Sam for as little as $800 but chances are  it will need some repairs or a new motor. Finally,  70,000 miles is only half worn out so you can expect another 70,000 fun miles on your $2,000 gas saver.  Thats cheep miles by anyones standards... Buy it IF YOU LIKE IT and it drives ok. Test drive it and let us know what you think it needs and we can tell you if it is something to worry about. Don't forget to lock the hubs and put it in 4x4... good luck and buyer be ware... all private party used cars are sold  AS IS in Calif unless stated otherwise in writting...probly more info than you wanted....
