I have a guy that wants to buy one from me but thinks he needs 4mm of spacing. He says his clutch isn't engaging or it is hanging up or something. I'm not exactly sure what problem he is having. Apparently the spacer is missing on his. The stock spacer is only 2mm so I'm not sure why he thinks he needs 4mm. It's so thin that I wouldn't think it would make a difference.
What purpose does the spacer serve and what happens if you try to run without it?

I think it's a heat shield and maybe something to do with air movement and possible safety plate incase the clutch lets go, I had a problem on a new trans in a 97 sport the input shaft was a tad too long and it took out the pilot bearing in a couple of days, ground it back a little and good to go, there was a sharp edege/ledge on it just past were the bearing rode.

I'm thinking the clutch problem he is having has nothing to do with this missing component. I'm sure suzuki engineered it into the plan for some reason. Heat shield seems reasonable as thick as it is. Maybe also to keep debiris off the clutch? ??? Hmmm..
