Title: king pin shims
Post by: nshape8 on October 20, 2007, 07:18:33 AM
Hi, I am at the tail end of finishing my diesel sami conversion.  It consist of a rust free 87 body (por-15 underside), 1.6 vw diesel (built by jack), rockyroad conversion kit, calmini 3.5, power steering, 31" mudders, rebuilt tranny & x-fer case, rear discs, rebuilt axles, etc...  I have seem to misplaced my shims for my king pins. How important are the shims?  I have looked through old thread and write-ups and all I can find is "don't loose them" but nothing on "if you loose them."  Any help is appriciated!

That is deffiatly no good, but you might be able to get some new ones through one of the venders such as haw, or trail tough.  Im pretty sure new shims come in the kunckel back repair kit.  There might be a possibilty that they would send you just the shims and nothing else.

Hope that helps somewhat

I can get the shims, I just need to know how many to put under each kingpin.  Is there a process in figuring this out?  Thanks for the reply!

Yup.  Read the FSM and get the gauge/scale so you can do it right.

Any chance someone could scan/post the FSM for this repair ?
Or how about some one who knows how and has pics ?
Thanks
