Title: Lower Ball Joint

I have a squeeky ball joint on my Tracker, do I need to pull out the CV shaft to get the ball joint out of the knuckle? There looks to be about an inch of clearance between the top of the ball joint and the CV cup, not enough room in my eyes, unless there's a trick to it.
