Title: The best shackles for on and off road use??
Post by: RiceBurner Turner on October 29, 2007, 05:22:01 PM
What about folding shackles? Are they safe for on road use? I have heard shackle reversal kits can be very dangerous on the road, but I wanted to hear some other opinions. I want some flex off road, but I dont want to die going to the grocery store.

And you don't have to worry about the handling of a shackle reversal on rode. Cars and trucks came from the factory with the shackle to the rear on the front springs for many years.

I saw a set of shackles on a heep once that had Teflon plates instead of pivots. the lower plate had a slot which the top had a pin able stud extending down through. On the street the pin would keep the rear of the leaves solid but able to slide front to rear. Off road pull the pins and the leaves drop away limited only by the shocks. Invest in hi angle u joints and a pan hard rod.
