I have a 1.6 that I need to rebuild. I was told from the guy I bought it from that it is a 95. As I was checking out some sites for parts I have noticed that there seems to be a cut off around 95/96 for parts. And it looks like I will be buying most parts off line, I would like to know that I am ordering the correct ones.
Thanks for any help.

Is it a 16Valve or an 8 Valve?
-
I guess I should have mentioned that. It is a 8v.
-
I believe the 8 valves were about the same from 91-95. mine is a 1990, and it has stuff in common with the 89-90 models (these were the only years of the sidekick/tracker that had a vacuum advance on the distributor), and it seems to have a lot less on the electrical diagram than the years after it.

Yep. 8V is throttle body injection on the 91-95 from the Two Door Tracker/Sidekicks. The 4 doors had a 16V. :)

Except for the 91, 4 doors......they had the 8V engine. ;)

If it is a 95 engine, it came from a 2door, 2wd.....since the 4wd, 2doors got the 16V engine that year. Not that any of this is relevant to you ordering parts.....I'm just letting you know. :)

Thanks all for letting me know what it isn't. ;) Now can I get some help on what it is? ;D
Please, again. I really just need to know what was changed from '95 to '96 in the 8v 1.6L engine.
I have found out that in '95 Suzuki had two 1.6 engines, the G16KV or G16KC. How do you tell which is which? Is there a difference in the two.
The thing did have a TBI on it if I remember correctly, if that helps any. And I have either the VIN or the SN that is stamped on the engine if it would help.

Depending on what you're rebuilding, the main difference would only be between the intakes and fuel delivery system, but the block and head on the 8 valves should all the the same, as far as the internal parts go.
The 16V's are definitely different.

There was no 8V engine in trackicks in 96....they all had 16Vs. So you do have a 95 or older engine.
I haven't heard of 2 "different" 1.6 engines in 95 trackicks.....other than they had an 8V version and a 16V version....both use the same blocks, so when you order stuff, tell them you have the 8V engine, then you'll get the correct gasket set, and pistons (since the 8V pistons have 2 valve reliefs, where the 16V pistons have 4).
