Title: How to renew dash lamps on 2002 XL7
Post by: DJW on October 29, 2007, 10:50:37 PM
A neighbor friend has asked me to help him troubleshoot some dashboard lamp(s) on his 2002 XL7.  The illumination has ceased working on the defrost/heater/AC control.  I've read your forum's instructions for removing the dash trim and instrument cluster.  Is there any further information required to access the bulbs & sockets for voltage check and possible lamp replacement.  I would really appreciate your advice.  Thanks.

At first blush, as I recall, I think I really needed to remove the whole dash to get the heater/ac controls out, going in from the back.  Not nearly as scary as it sounds, but a pain in the ass nonetheless.  Maybe someone else had more luck going in from the front.  I never noticed how the lighting was handled in there, either, but that sure is a weird loss.

Attaching a pdf of the instruments illumination wiring diagram for the '02 XL-7.

I took my entire dash apart to get to the same bulb.  Took me about 2 hours.

there is another bulb in that housing that runs the lighting for the  temperature (red blue)/ fresh/ recirculate section.

the bulb is soldered in if memory servers me correct, and you have to take the whole works out of the truck, and take it apart to get to it.....

Ive never done it, but if anyone else has, let me know how it went.....
