Hi, everybody, I´ve made a search and didnt find anything on my problem. I have a 1996 Geo Tracker auto 4x4 2 dr. 1.6 16v. Ok the problem is that I don´t have backup lights. I took the car to a mechanic and after several tests he determined that the neutral safety switch is no good. I went to USA and backordered the switch at Autozone for $92. Yesterday night "playing" with the stick I saw that if I push a little forward after putting the shiftstick in reverse, the backup light will go on and stay on as long as I kept pushing the stick. The question is , does this switch can be adjusted, calibrated or something ? I have no other problem related with the switch, it starts in parking , perfectly and in general I have no problem , except I have no backup lights and for an old man thats a big problem.

The switch might be "sticky", just as a guess. And pushing the lever makes the little inner piece of the switch move in a way that allows the backup lights to come on.

I suspect the "harness" that the tranny hooks into ...
hows it do when you put the tcase into 4wd (do you get the "green glow").
my guess, you have that connector that sends tcase position AND revrse being intermittant

I've not had a look at a Zuk switch but on the older cars I've had the switches were adjusted by screwing the switch body in or out. It sounds like it needs screwing in a bit.

Thank you all for your responses, I don´t think it´s sticky, since all the other function work, the 4x4 Lo indicater , lights up and stays lighted as long as you are using de 4x4, the so called switch has a shape of a cuarter of a circle, like a ladys fan, so tomarrow saturday I´ll go down under and take a look and see if I can move it (rotate) forward or reverse and see what happens, trial and error, monday if I hit the jackpot I´ll inform you.
