I just got my bonus check from work and need a new exhaust and tires. Tires are taken care of but I need to ask what you guys would do about the exhaust?
I would like to get the most parts for the least amount of money.(wife reasons)
I would like to get a new Catalytic converter, and muffler. Any brands yous suggest?
I want to have a nice deep tone. Not a bumblebee-in-a-can.
-
I know a lot of guys on here run Flowmaster, but I've had better luck with Dynomax. What size of pipe you running? If you are running stock pipe, there's not much you can do for performance mufflers (2 inch is a good start there) and replacing an entire system can get expensive. Mine was 300 bucks Canadian. It was a worthy swap for me cause I busted my (already new) stock sized exhaust while wheeling. My wife was not happy, but at least she went for the bigger pipe size!

well I would like to replace the cat, muffler and pipes too. I was thinking about going with 2.25 pipe if I could.
-
id go with a 2.25 inch flowmaster
-
Why replace the cat ???
you have a newer trucklet and
cats are expensive, just get a
muffler shop to install a new
2" cat back with a muffler, ask
them what they have for sound,
I had a quiet muffler put on, and
it still had some engine sound, the
whole system cat back cost $175

Well the cat is pretty rusty and the heat sheild was rattling bad so I tried to take it off but the bolts were soooo rusted they fell apart and so I had to tear the bottom shield off and the top is still there and rattling bad too. I figured it was time to get a new one because of that and it also has almost 75K miles on it.
Either I'll get a new one or keep the old one weld the top sheild back on and gutt it after I the the cat-back exhaust is installed.
I'm kinda going with what I will need to get in the worst case scinerio

Ahh, I C

I put a Thorley header and high flow cat and a magnaflow with a 2" tailpipe. Runs alot better and has a nice little rumble to it. :)
-
I've been happy with the Calmini cat-back system, but I was dropping my daughter's car off at the shop yesterday and had the Tracker sitting there idling (waiting for my daughter) and the guy asked me if I wanted "a muffler put on that thing" ::)
If you need to replace your CC, I'd go with a nice hi-flow one.
-
Can't buy a header for a 99+ cause I can't afford to pay for it.  :'(  $250-300 for a header from Austrailia (Calmini doesn't make a header or cat-back system for the 99+ 4cyl)
How much will a high-flow cat cost? (I figured $80-100)
Thats what I was planning on getting if I have too.
I'd like to get dual exhaust but only if I keep the old cat. (I'd split it after the muffler.)
I told the wife that it souldn't cost more than $300-400 and she is complaining.  ::) So I have to get the most for the least amount of $$$ but also replace what is needed too.  >:(
-
I was quoted $300 for a complete
3" turbo back system with a 3" cat
and no muffler.
I don't need a muffler because the
turbo and the cat mellows out the
sound so much it just has a nice
deep tone, not ricey in the least bit

Question
I too own a newer 03" style tracker
I want to raise the pipe that is basically the main concern on my mind when traversing water
so should I look towards cutting the bumper and getting a pipe pointed through?
-
Don't worry about water, it won't
go in to the engine, but if you want
to get your pipe up and away from
rocks and obsticles, I would put it
out over the bumper, or thru the
bumper if it's in the way, that is going
to be where mine comes thu.
Right now it blows out under the trucklet
between the tire and the fuel tank, works
fine, I suck lots of exhaust fumes but it
can't get snagged on anything there ;)

being such a small displacement engine at 2.0
is a 2" exhaust necesasary?
like hot damn that's pretty decent size won't it affect back pressure?
I already find the 134lb torque reasonable to move my 4 door 03' through rough terrain
I wouldn't want to give any of it up for horsepower gains at higher rpms
-
I thought the 2.0L exhaust was
a good size system, I wouldn't
change it if it's in good condition,
just re-route it for clearance if needed

Just route it right through the floorboards... then you'll have extra heat in the winter, too ;D
-
well I got an appt. at Midas Muffler today a 4pm.
Free estimate and I'll find out then if I need a new cat or not.
If so I will get a good high-flow if possable.
I heard that the thicker the pipeing the deeper the sound, Is that true?
-
Well just got back from Midas.
Good news is all I needed was a new tailpipe. Paid $30
Bad news is that my rotors are shot. So I had to go to Autozone and order rotors at $80 each :o and a set of pads too. In all it came up to $210 :'(
I wanted to get a new cat-back system but the wife was complaining too much so I decided to make her happy and just get the tailpipe fixed and she said well what happened to getting a new muffler? So I said I'm saving us money and just getting the tailpipe thinking she'd be happy about that. She just said "OH" But then I told her about needing new rotors and how much they were and she started yelling about spending too much money on my Tracker. >:(

bitch bitch bitch lol

Couldn't of said it better myself.
I run the the Calmini cat-back muffler and their 2" pipe. It makes a great sound, not to loud and looks great! :)

Just take the front brakes off her car and see how quickly she wants those replaced ;D

LOL I'd do it but she probably not even notice anything was wrong. ::)
Plus I don't want to kill her or our unborn child either. :P

Then do something harmless like unplug half the plug wires ;)

Man, if you want neglegence induced automotive hilarity, work at an oil change place... the amount of young ladies that don't know anything about their cars, then come in in tears because their check engine/oil light is on because they went 12k miles on the oil change and now the engine is making 'funny noises' is staggering. :o
-
My wife was complaining about the
cost of replacing the master cylinder
in an old Volvo that I had, it was like
$40.
So I said "and it would be cheeper
to ram up sombodys back end when
I can't stop ?"
She shut right up
