Title: for a locker a old 3rd member is required?
Post by: r3cc0s on November 11, 2004, 07:42:25 AM
owning a 03' tracker 2.0

if i were to throw in a lockright or even an ARB

states I probably need a 3rd member from an older axel

however... i'm not sure exactly what it is?
If so, will this change my ring/pinion ratio and cause issues with the transfercase riding in 4x?

The only thing you need to worry
about is that the front and rear
gear ratios are the same, or you
will lunch somthing in 4WD

The 3rd member is the center part
that the driveshaft connects to, and
has the nuts going around it, this
holds the ring and pinion gears, the
spider gears, (which get replaced with
a locker), or in the case of an ARB the
carrier which is what the ring gear is
bolted onto

only in the front that I know of, your gears stay the same unless you want an arb get an older gear set, for a loc-rite in the front you need a four pin carrier from a early 1988 samurai (I like 88's) for an arb it comes with it's own needed parts just like a lsd, so loc-rite in front your correct!

If your putting a ARB in the rear you'll probably have problems with the R/P.  Their was no way the R/P from my GV V6 was going to go onto the vit arb locker.  It didn't matter for me as I was changing to 5.125 anyway.

In the front if you have the shift on the fly diff setup that the GV's have you'll need the drivers side stub axle from a vit.

I've put front and rear ARB lockers in my '03 GV :)
