Title: OME GV springs on 2dr Trackick..
Post by: museboy07 on November 25, 2007, 08:27:30 AM
Anyone experience with this??  I was thinkin the medium duty GV springs on my 2dr tracker.  I bet it would still ride decent.  I'm kinda wondering what amount of lift it would yield.  I'm looking to get at least 2.5in.  If this isn't a great idea then someone direct me to some readily available springs that will yield a minimum of 2.5in that i could look into.  Thanks!

OME 962 are the GV heavy duty coils...wouldn't that ride kinda harsh??  How mush lift would they yield??

I don't have first hand knowledge of this spring in your application but I would suggest that if Mike says it will work then it will work.

I cant remember the exact amount of lift but I want to say 3 inches. They rode awsome in my rig. Another guy in our club runs them in is rig too and it is a lightweight rig.

Make sure you post results to this thread if and when you get them so others can see how it works.

I'd be guessing 2.5-3.0" of lift...  Check the struts though once they're in, because you don't want to be riding around with them at full extension.  You'll booger them up pretty quick.

OME 962 are gv heavy duty for the front...they only list one rear selection for the GV which is OME 961.  Is that what i get??

..two OME 962 for the front and 2 OME 961 for the rear??

I saw in another thread somewhere that the GV rear springs are a different diameter. What you want are the heavy duty 4 door springs.

So which ones...GV heavy duty fronts and GV rears or 4 door heavy duty for all four???

4 door heavy duty in the rear GV heavy duty in the front.

4 door heavy duty in the rear GV heavy duty in the front.

OME955's in the back (4-door heavy load rears), and OME962 (GV heavy fronts) or OME959 (4-door heavy fronts).  Without using coil spacers, the 962 will yield more lift, just don't know how much.

Switch around to ordering it by part numbers, instead of description, because you'll confuse the hell out of whoever it is you order from.

Ok so what i should get is GV HD fronts and 4 door HV rears??  And this will yield 3in of lift??  Sorry for the questions i just don't want to order the wrongs things.

The OME 956 springs for the front of the XL-7 will yield a bit more lift than the 962 springs and they have a slightly softer rate at 500 instead of 540.

The 955 springs will need spacers added to give 3" of lift.

Try a rear XL7 lift spring, I use stock xl7 rear springs on my 2dr, not sure how much lift that produced from stock height but more than an inch, I have this combined with a heep spacer. but maybe the OME's will do the trick.  Just a thought..

Ok, everyone that has posted on this topic has given me a different answer.  I need someone with there own PERSONAL EXPERIENCE to tell me which OME front and rear coils will give my 2 door Tracker 3in of lift..

Hi museboy,

Take another look at the replies - the answers are there, you just need to decide what you are after.
GV heavy duty fronts OME962 and 4 door heavy duty rears OME955 looks like the go  ;) , that is what I would run.

Good luck and keep us all posted on the outcome  >:D

Ya that is what I think I am going to do.  I really hope it turns out to be 2.5 to 3in of lift just with the coils cause I really DON'T wanna use coil spacers anymore.  That is what I'm upgrading from.

The 956 springs will give more than 3" unless you are really heavily loaded with bar, winch etc. so look at the 962. If you use the 955 in the rear you will need spacers to get 3".

Maybe this chart will help out that I put together under the OME Springs:

http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/kicksuspension.htm

I am personally trying to do the same thing on my 4 door Tracker. I ordered in 950's, 959's, and 962's to see what works the best in the front.
For the rear I ordered in  955's and 961's.
I also have our 1.5" spacers if I have to go with the lower springs and the spacers to get the 2.5"-3" lift.

I will let you know what I come up with.

The 968 will give more lift in the rear than the 961 or 955.

Museboy, just keep in mind that you might get plenty of lift, but you also want the ride to be good.  There's not much point at jacking it up that much if you can't stand to drive it.

Rockmolester has gotten good lift out of his combination, and he loves the ride.  A small coil spacer on a quality spring is not really a bad idea in my opinion.  It's what i'm having to do to get away from the calmini coils.

The 968 is the OME XL-7 rear, 370mm free height and 210lb compared to the 961 at 340mm free height and 200lb and the 955 at 350mm free height and 200lb. They are all 16mm dia. wire and 8.5 coils.

The Front OME XL-7 956 is 330mm free height and 500lb and has 14mm dia. wire and 9.4 coils. The 959 is 310mm free height and 540lb and the 962 is 340mm free height and 540lb and they both have 13mm dia. wire and 8.5 coils.

1" = 25.4mm

Who is rockmolester and where can I find his build at?

Sorry, I thought you would already know who he is.  He tried several OME combinations for more lift.

I just came in for a minute for an update. I put in the rear 955's and 1.5" spacers without the stock rubber isolator and ended up with it sitting 3" higher in the rear.

I am going to put in the 962 in the front and see how it turns out without the spacer. I am also putting in the OME Front Struts and still trying to decide on doing the strut flip or use the 1.5" strut spacers I have.

This thread helped me out a lot on deciding what to do: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=444978

Came in for the night.
I got the Drivers side front all done with the 962's, stock rubber isolator, OME Struts and the strut flip.
It seems that it has at least 2.25" of extra lift but I wont know for sure until the other side is done as well.
I do know for sure that it has an extra 2.25" more droop than the other side.

Sean, you should check the CV travel very carefully. You may well be maxing out the travel which will kill them pretty quickly.

That's ok, my eventual plans are to do the Trail Slayer kit. I just cant stand to drive it at the stock height until I get my axles rebuilt and ready to go.

Sean

My wife used to have a 2WD tracker and i was just inches away from putting 3" of lift in the thing, since i didn't have to worry about CV's.  Never did it though...

Are you putting in the 962's with just the stock bumper on the front?
