Need help again.......
I have owned 4x4's forever with out getting whining in the axle, but today was the first time i used the 4x4 in the new Tracker. Hubs moved very easy to lock position, and i put it in 4 hi and was driving in the new fresh snow and noticed it started whining on the passengers side front. 4x4 was working fine and pulling nicely, just the whine started after about 10MPH and got louder and higher as i sped up. Now this noise is not there in 2x4 so what's going on? Is this normal in Trackers (91) and if it does need parts i have a 89 parts tracker, will the parts interchange? I did search but almost all results where related to Samurai. Any help would be great.

If the bearings haven't been packed in forever it is likely the brass bushing the cv axle rides in is dry. It sits behind the bearings and wont make any noise unless the CV axle is moving; hubs locked or 4x4 engaged. Just to be sure put it up on jack stands and throw it in 4x4 then listen closely for the source of the noise you can use a mechanics scope or vacuum hose to pinpoint the sound and rule out diff bearings.
