Title: Adjustable rear suspension
Post by: skandy32 on November 28, 2007, 05:17:53 PM
I'm toying with the idea of finding some sort of adjustable rear springs / suspension for my zuk.

I have a swb, i have stock springs, with coil spacers and this is all fine with 2 people riding in the front seats. The second i have 4 people seated, i've got a super a saggy and slightly too soft rear end, with low beam lights blinding traffic on the roads. So i need harder springs in the rear right? But i love the way it rides with just 2 people, it's just right and comfy.

Is there any adjustable spring - type thing on the market? Maybe an airbag spring idea? I've been searching the forum, but not found anything connected to this (yet).

Any thoughts guys? anyone else know my problem? I could just fit lwb rear springs and be done with it, but the word 'adjustable' is attractive :) hehe

Any airbag kit should be able to work.  Just find a really small one.  :)

One of the Air Lift kits from a Toyota mini pickup could probably be modified rather easily.

I've seen some adjustable coil spacers, they were aluminum rings with steps to change three settings. But the biggest problem is needing to completely unload the springs to change the hight. Not something you want to do every time you pick some buddies. Go with air bags if it's feasible.

JC whitney sells an airbag kit for the rear of the Trackicks, Made by AirLift. I have it installed in mine for use when I pull my Camper. I think the whole kit was around $70, and It works very well. You will have to make a spacer for the bags that equals the amount of spacer lift, or better yet, DO NOT cut the bump stops down as described in the instructions, Then it should fit the bag fine.

I used the same bags with a shitty on board compresor and it worked well enough to compensate for the added weight. The 4 door I bought in May has no problem with the extra weight.

Thats awesome, and incredibly cheap to my suprise! I have a ew more questions no though, im quickly becoming interested in this, ha ha! I shouldn't have asked in the first place!

Is there a set available for the front? If i could stiffen up my whole ride, road-driving altogether would be better!

Would they still work with longer springs?

Is there any simular thing that would adjust my lift too?

Cheers, Andy :)

None available for the front that I know of, and I looked. They will not give you any noticeable lift, maybe 1/2 ", but they will keep the back end from sagging. I just fill mine with any air hose, a compressor really isn't necessary, unless you already have one.
