1/4" aluminum , oil change is easy , I can get at the nut easy and I made a little piece of aluminum for the oil to run out and into a tub , no mess at all....

i've heard that aluminum stuff doesn't like to slide but gets stuck on sharp edges, i have no proof of this though, looks good - hope it works out for you.

Our millitary trucks well the Silverados have 1/4" alium plate. It works great for mild mud slash rocks. But when you get to jagged edges it digs in the alum.

Nice work tho man. Any more pics of how you mounted the rocker gaurds?

Sounds like aluminum is too soft for serious rocks, but this was probably intended for other terrain. Certainly looks good, maybe even do good to bang up  :)

ah well even if the aluminum doesn't slide well on sharp rocks..  at least you'll know what you're on and the expensive parts will be protected.

Skin the skid with 1/4" UHMW plastic, then it will slide like a greased pig.
