Title: strut extenders
Post by: kingzoo on December 02, 2007, 03:46:44 PM
Does anybody besides Boondox motorsports make strut extenders?I would  take a used pair of 1.5 inch strut extenders for my 1991 Suzuki Sidekick 4 door.
Let me know where I can find them or if you have a set.
  Thank's

I've seen some at an off road expo for Toyotas for way to much. Seems like for the right price some could be made at a local machine shop. It would only take a lathe and drill press and some time.  My advice is to find a local high school or trade school and have a set fabbed up for a couple beers... err scratch that, box of dough nuts?

There is not a trade school around here with the equipment to do it.I usually have access to a mill and lathe and such but until my neuro surgeon clears me to work, which he swears will never happen,I can't get in the shop.
Boondox charges $50 for theirs and according to many people it will take forever to get them.Mabey I can get one of the guys at work to tool me a set.
I would just rather use extenders than do the strut flip.

one easy way to make the extenders is to get 2 exhaust phlanges (chevy SBC I believe). Cut a section of thick wall tube to length, weld it up.

The exhaust flanges are just the perfect size to mate up to the strut mounts.

So, 4 flanges, 2 1.5" lengths of tube (I'd suggest 1/4" wall), 6 bolts and nylocks and then add a pound or so of wire.

I have been considering that ,as I have a pair of that type of strut spacer on hand.I just prefer the extender, but if I can't find a pair at a reasonable price I will probably use those.

Maybe try zukination out of canada.  It seems like a lot of their stuff is available ala carte.  Their prices seem a little high, but we have to get the parts where we can.  It could be worse.  Imagine if you were looking for lift components for a kia sportage

Bits 4 Vits used to sell them, he has some Shock Extenders that look like them.

He also has some cool looking 1.5" spacers.

Linkage, as the URL is long... (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Suzuki-Vitara-1-5-Strut-Spacers-for-Suspension-Lift_W0QQitemZ140185264370QQihZ004QQcategoryZ10426QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem)

I assume you are referring to the screw in style extenders shown here: http://www.boondoxmotorsports.com/StrutExtenders.jpg

Yeah, the screw on style strut extenders are the type I am looking for.But the low range stryt spacers are cool enough.
I think I may be able to get machine time this weekend. If so I will make a set or 2.
