Hello,
I have my 86 Samurai in my work shop and have started to tear the old carb out. The problem that I am having is that the instructions with the redline Weber are very universal and not specific to my rig. What should be removed and what should stay. Does anyone know of a site that deals with the Weber/Samurai transplant?

i have a 1.3 sidekick, and the carb kit i got was for a sammy.
i currently have all the smog but the vapor canister off the rig.
other than that, it was remove the stock carb mount studs to install the adaptor, bolt on weber, and reroute the throttle cable.
i am still useing the stock air cleaner (which sits higher now).
i also thought the redline instructions sketchy.

After much head scratching I think I have it figured out. I just yanked everything out that didn't look like a Carb part (thinking back to my old VW solex days). I was able to get it to run before calling it a night.

If you are still out on the Islands you could probably bug my brother. He has had some experience with the Webber carbs. :)

sounds to me like you are getting it worked out.
i have made a couple of fishing runs thru the sierras with the carb and am pleased w/ the improvement over that stock thing (quasi-injected?), but am going to re-jet it to see if i can improve the over 5000' altitude performance.
i have a jet kit
i think i can re-install the EGR funtion and mabe pass smog.
i may be dreaming, but i'd have to put the stock stuff back on every 2 years for registration purposes otherwise.

I think I have it worked out. I sure goes like a bat out of hell now. I've owned this vehicle for over 20 years (173,000 miles) so believe me when I say I can feel a difference. I still has a few bugs to work out but I am very pleased with it so far.
Drone... which Island does your brother live on?
Rascott... I moved from Orange County Ca. 15 years ago to a County in Wash. that has no smog inspections...lucky me.

Glad you worked it out. It is a rip it all off and bolt the Webber on project. You should locktite the plate studs and nuts or they will work loose and cause air leaks...may still run ok but not like it should...may die at stops. Easy to check though just pull up and down on the front of gas intake and feel for looseness. You will be pumping a lot more gas and air now so run some carb cleaner thru it once in a while. Add a header and zoom zoom zoom. Keep all of the stock carb hoses and connections marked for fast put back for smog checks.

Hey- Did you get your carb tuned? I installed a 34/34 on my 86' sami and can't quit get it tuned right. If I choke it it runs great but way to rich. When I set the choke where it should be It sputters but eventually gets up to speed. Any ideas? Fuel pressure ?

Drone... which Island does your brother live on?
Out at Lopez, works at IMC. He had a Sammy for a while, currently has a 4 door Sidekick. We just need to replace it before his wife will let us tear into it. :D
