Title: E-BRAKE
Post by: cforand1293 on December 12, 2007, 11:36:59 AM
I have a 86 sami and live in Texas. i have to get it inspected and need to get my e-brake working. When I pull up on it nothing happens. What do I need to look for? Is there a easy fix or should i take it in somewhere? Any help or direction would be great!

thanks

It could be as simple as needing new rear shoes and a cable adjustment or you might need a new cable or hardware in the rear drums. I know that my Tracker's ebrake gradually fades until it stops working as the rear shoes wear out. New rear shoes and it's good as new.

I'd start by checking to see if there is slack in the cables when you yank up on the handle.  If so you should be able to adjust the cables to take up the slack.  If they won't adjust enough then adjust or replace your worn out brake shoes.

Start at the E-brake handle and work backwards. If the cable is disconnected/broken at the handle, no amount of brake work will make it function.

Check the monkey motion of the cables from the handle to the drums, lot's of pin's, clip's and springs. You may find the problem there if you have no other brake problems.
