Had the side gears blow apart on my 413 / Sammy rear locker :-X. They seperated where the boss meets the side gear ( it is a hard locker ). Checked another one out of another truck and found cracks running down the splines in the spline troughs ( after only 600 k's / 400 miles ). Anyone else had this problem :'(?
-
Wow, Ive never heard of this happening. The axle didnt break? Do you have any pics?
-
The axle is fine. The splines on the axle and the diff housing are all in like new condition so it is a little perplexing really. My soft lockers that use the original side gears have all been fine. I checked one of those to after 5 years of use and it still looks like new.
Maybe this is why some of you guys run spols. :-/

Oh yeah - pic's? I can e-mail you some direct if you like. I do not have a web site to stick them on.

I had the same happen with a lockright a few years ago. But I had twisted several axles over time before it let go. ::) Was it the short side?
-
Hi Fity. It has actually gone on both sides.
One side is totally destroyed, the other has a big chunk that has broken out.
It is not good.
So what do you think caused yours to go?
I can send pic's to anyone who wants to take a look but it will have to be sent direct. I have no way of posting them.

No web site necessary. Keep files under 300k on you computer, upload, copy/paste urls into message. Just follow the simple instructions:

Thanks team. See if this works first. It should be an image of my truck.http://www.omghi2.us/april05/ZeusZuki02.jpg

Ok. I think I have finally got the hang of this.
Try these images. Look closely and you can see the hair line cracks in my "good" locker.

I dont know anyone running the lockers with side gears. I always use the type with out side gears. I would think this was a deffective part at from what I can see.

I tend to agree Mike. It does not help that I had brought two! My lockers without the side gears have performed faultlessly.
I am going to try for a warranty claim - fingers crossed.
My two Kick's have a hard lockers in them too - I am too scared to look.
That could mean four busted lockers!!! Ouch. ???
-
Let me get this straight, you got Lockers
with couplers, and didn't use the stock sidegears ?
And Mike you always get the lockers without
couplers and use the stock sidegears, right ?

Yes
-
Yes Wildgoody that is right.
The blurb I heard was that the lockers with couplers are supposed to be stronger >:(
I had been running lockers with the standard side gears until now. I installed them in the front instead and they still look brand new!!!
Back to the drawing board I guess. :-/
-
I have only used the ones without the couples, but did manage to get the same result from standard side gears. :)
My guess is that the actual hemishere was worn allowing the side gear (or replacement) to twist slightly and allow misalignment. Check this for wear.
I only found mine when doing an oil change and bits dropped into the bucket. Mine was still driving like normal with the exception of more frequent clicking while driving straight.

Well gentlemen, there has been an interesting development. The vendor I bought the lockers off has sent me replacement units at no cost. ;D
They have been covered under warranty. I am VERY pleased with the service, it would have been easy to simply say "Sorry" and forget about me over here in New Zealand. I mean it is not like I am going to get on the next flight to the US |removethispart|@ $1800 return. :P
OUTSTANDING SERVICE in my book. A true dedication to customer satisfaction. WOW!!!
-
Wow :o When I bought mine here in Australia I was told that the warranty would be void if I ran tyres larger then 31"s. What size tyres do you have Zeus?
-
33" Goodyear Wranglers. I ran 33's with my soft locker for 3-4 years and had no problems. I have dealt with this vendor exclusively for a few years now and it is for this very reason - they are awesome!!! ;).
