Title: Vehicle Speed Sensor

My VSS is malfunctioning. Is there any way to fix it or is it a remove/replace item? Is it located on the inside or on the outside of the transfer case?

If its a first gen vehicle then its mounted on the rear of the speedo. The switch is a reed switch. If you're handy with a soldering iron then you should be able to source one from an electronics shop. Make sure that the speedo cable and drive gear are OK first though. 2nd gen use a Hall Effect switch on the t-case, these are usually very reliable so check the wiring before before buying a new one.
