Title: Auto Transmission rebuild/replace cost?
Post by: nuts4hotwheels on December 20, 2007, 05:17:56 PM: I have a 1998 Tracker with auto transmission. I have transmission problems and think that the tranny may need to be rebuilt or replaced. What do you think the approximate cost to have this done by a mechanic shop would be?

Now mind you I live in Canada so things are diffeent here but I was quoted at $700 - 800 to rebuild. Thats alot of money for a tranny although it did include a new torque converter. And that was me pulling it out and dropping it on there bench.
I went to a local wrecker and picked up a JDM Import tranny with 45k on it for $450 and that was including a transfer case.
I would suggest making some calls to both the rebuilders in your area as well as wreckers as to find what the price difference will be.
If the wreckers offer a high mileage tranny make sure they give you some kind of warranty to go with it.

My F-350 cost around 3K not including the removal and installation... :'(

Dang, you got off lucky. I am looking at dang near 6K to replace the 48RE in my Dodge 3500. But then again I am adding a few goodies too. 8)
