Title: Calmini 2.5 inch with RRoad Spacers
Post by: Flork on December 30, 2007, 05:39:35 PM
Hey Folks, its been a long time since I've been on here, but its good to be back!

I sold my 91 2dr. a couple months ago and have happened accross a 2003 2dr. ZR2 in amazing shape (only 40,000km). Now, I'm in the process of ordering all of my stuff.

I've heard of people combining coil spacers with a calmini set up to gain more suspension lift. I was wondering if anyone here has done this with a late model 2dr.? I was thinking of going with Rocky road's 1 inch spacers.

If so, were there any problems? What added equipment will I need? Will I need new camber bolts or brake lines?

I'd be really thankful for any help and suggestions. This will be the first time I've installed anything will complex myself (lucky for me I'll have a mechanic helping me out  ::) )

Wouldn't use RRO's spacers, they're famous for collapsing.

Frankly I wouldn't use spacers at all.  3.5" of lift is a bit much for some of the angles that Calmini doesn't address such as the steering.  Even with their diff drop the CV joints would still be 2.5" away from the stock setup...I didn't like the way mine looked at 2".

X 2.  I know this first-hand.  Doesn't take long to have your 1"+ spacer squish down to about 1/2".

Thanks for the feedback,

I thought the Calmini kit returned the CV angles back to stock. So in that case, I would have been safe adding a spacer. I figured if I was doing it, I might as well pay another 100 bucks for an extra inch of lift...guess not!

They return the CV's to near stock but that's it.  The steering is still at the stock places only now with a lot more angle on them.  The kit is hard to align in it's Calmini form so I can't imagine what adding another inch to it would be like.

well for my ride i have that calmini 2.5, and for the rear i put in a set of XJ coils, they can with stand more weight, and it puts the rear alittle taller, for my liking anyways.

there are guys running spacers in the calmini lifts.  it is probably not recommeded by calmini and many others but have a look around zuwharrie.  some guys are running 1st gen's with the calmini 3inch kit and 2inch spacers!  also saw a guy on car domain with a 2nd gen gv with the calmini 2.5inch kit and spacers.
