Title: built 16v misfire help!
Post by: OBH on December 31, 2007, 03:12:56 PM
Hey all, I have a 97 Tracker with a 16v motor that I have built with all brand new parts. The block is .020 over with a Hawk head, torquer cam, and Header. I cannot get this thing to idle enough to get it through DEQ testing. The issue is a random misfire and has only thrown a P0300 code on my OBD2 scan. It is in perfect time right now, but no matter how advanced or retarded I time it, she still misses. It is a random miss and happens on all cylinders. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have no more ideas. Thanks, Bill

I have already tried a new set of wires, no change. Thanks though. Bill

Possibly a bad coil with an intermittent short?  I'm assuming that since you say you've built this thing with all new parts that it's got a new dizzy, cap and rotor correct?

Be sure the rotor is on right and that the tab is locked onto the
dizzy shaft. I had a rotor melt and spin causing the same problem.
