Title: TRANSMISSION HELP
Post by: serioushorsepower on January 03, 2008, 04:05:19 PM
I wanted to know if I could take a 4x4 transmission out of my geo tracker and put just the trans in my two wheel drive geo tracker? Does anyone know if that will interchange or not even if I take off the transfer case? any info would be appreciated. thanks.

im pretty sure most of it should line up. im not a geo guy but if it fit one, it should fit the other. depends on if they are the same year or not im sure though. if the transmission and t-case are mated (not seperated by a driveline), you may have to swap the tail housings ??? id do a nice side by side looksee beore you tried anything though. you may need to swap crossmembers also if the tranny is different. hell you may even just be able to mount the tranny with the t-case and use the shorter driveline from the donor car not using the front output on the t-case. or even turn the 2wd into a 4wd by swapping front ends. most manufacturers design their cars to except every option. just depends on what gets bolted to it as it goes down the line.

I wanted to know before I tore everythng out of the other vehicle and then find out it won't work.  Thanks for the info though. It is better than what I've gotten on here so far.

Sorry I been asleep on the job  ;)

Yes both transmissions are the same, remove the transfer case
and put the 2WD tailshaft casting on it, use the same driveshaft
that came from the 2WD.

One problem u might have, is the output shaft splines on some
transmissions are different, don't know why so you might check
that they are both same, 26 splines before you start.

Good Luck,
