Why does my fuel pump leak oil. It leaks pretty bad out the tube in the backside closest to the firewall. it functions fine. but leaks? does it need replacing.
-
Because the rubber diaphragm inside has ruptured. It needs to be replaced.

thats all. im going to have to look into this. car quest said they could get me apump but it would be around 45 after tax. i just stuck a hose on the end and ran it to a catch can. just to stop oil stains in the driveway. thanks for the help

Just to be sure, your fuel pump is leaking oil from the pump and not where it bolts onto the engine block, right?
-
Dang, that is the first thing that went tits up on my first Sammy. Yes, time to replace your fuel pump. Check into installing a low pressure electric fuel pump instead of the stock pump. I believe they cost less and you will be one step ahead when and if you decide to swap to a 1.6l.
I think my electric pump cost 25/30$.

It needs to be replaced soon. You will also need to change the oil and filter because the gas will get into the oil system and dilute it. Be warned that this can cause major engine damage.
