I am soon lifting my 91' Kick 2dr, Do I need to make any engine mods if I go to this size tire 31/10.5 R15 or is the stock 1.6L ok... :)
-
Got a sledgehammer/sawzall ready? ;D
I'd personally recommend Heather's budget 5inch lift guide (I'd provide the link if I weren't so lazy :P)... seems like it should be able to be done with around $2-300 with all the little odds and ends included, plus you should be able to fit 31x10.50's with little to no fender trimming/modification :)
As far as engine mods, if you're gonna spend money on anything, get gears. I ran around for several months with stock everything (engine, gears, etc) with heavy bias-ply 33x13.50s without much trouble; freeway driving, though was near impossible.
-
Thanks for the reply, I am doing the 2" coil spacers next week and down the road a 2 or 3 inch body lift....I was just curious about needing more power, all I have done so far is good pluggs wires and a K&N filter. I currently run 30/9.5 on it and it go through mud sweet as long as its not to deep.
-
hehe, I need to learn to read more... I thought you meant can you fit 31's on a stock Trackick ;D
Engine mods never hurt anyone... good starting point is a header/exhaust system and free'er flowing intake (K&N filter). Then on to stuff like having the head shaved, a cam, or even a turbo ;D
-
Haven't touched my engine yet except K&N and a better turbo muffler.
Still no speed demon, but whats the rush ;)
I can cruize 60mph comfortablely and 65-70 uncomfortablely ;)
I'm Running 32/10.5 Radial Swampers.
Just don't expect to use 5th gear alot but down hill and flat/level roads.

Thorsuzi, what size rims are you running with the current 30x9.50 tires? what Backspace?

I know this wasnt addressed to me but I can answer it. I have a 95 tracker with 30x9.5x15 tires and no lift. The wheels are 15x7 with 3.75" backspacing, which is the same as stock Samurai backspacing. (stock sami wheels are 15x5.5, though)
I hammered out the front wheelwells a bit and had to trim the bottom of the front bumper cover a tiny bit but they really dont rub significantly anywhere.
I even have a used Calmini 2" lift for it (A arms, axle brackets, etc, no shocks) and never put it on because I dont need it. The lift parts are for sale, by the way. $600 new, I'll sell for $250, neg. email me at zukibot(a)comcast.net if you are interested
the purple tracker is in my avatar pic over there <-----

what he said digger, I have not put the coil spacers in yet but I did trim the bumper....what I am looking for is a rim specs that will do fine for 31/10.5 and are offset atleast an inch so I don't need to buy wheel spacers I just don't know the specs of what I am looking for.

15x7 rims with 3" backspacing will work well for 31x10.5 tires. it will push the tires out far enough to mess with the wheelwell openings, though, so be prepared to add some lift or do some chopping.

Huppo, you have a PM! ;D(an email is coming, too!)
-
I got 1 91 also, 1" RRO lift, and 30x9.50 on the stock rims. No rubbing at all. I rubbed the frame some at first, but it quit for whatever reason!
Next up, 2" spacer lift, new rims w/ 2.75" backspacing and 32's!
Yes, I own a sawzall!  8)
Oh, and I'm adding a sammi t-case also ;D

by power do u mean do u need to drop in a v-8 of course u do. i run 31x11.5x15 with a little body lift and some spacers. look down for lift higth. i can't use 5th but 4th is good as long as u don't want to go over 75 on the speedo that is probly about 83mph actually.
-
Mine was fine with 31's,but i didn't like the ride so i went with 29's. I have no problem cruising at 75 in Overdrive. :)

a little body lift
You consider 4 1/2 inches of body lift to be a little? :o
What do you think is going to happen to your body if your chassis hits something travelling at speed?

It would be kinda like an Indy car when they hit a wall at a 150MPH. all that left is the cockpit. you said you had carbon fiber floors right? :-/

Old Bronco/F150 wheels... I currently have a set of 31" AT's off my Bronco mounted on the Tracker right now (had to drive it 250 miles home... needed something other than the biasply LTB's)
-
so f150 wheels can handle a 31/10.50/r15 tire then? wow you guys are actually helpful unlike the guys on the eclipse forum*my other ride*
actually im going to call a junkyard tomorrow looking for these. what exactly should i ask for? year? model? etc? i really appreciate the help
-
Dunno... I bought my 1980 Bronco with 31's on what appear to be stock wheels... so I'd start there ;)
-
Biggest thing is the center needs
to be 4-1/4" (105mm) to fit over the
front hubs and the rear caps.
Most early Ford trucks had this size
wheel on them, and will all fit 31x10.5
tires.

Oh yeah, one other thing: my '82 F-100 didn't have large enough center holes... dunno if that's because it was 2wd or what. :-/
-
saweet! ill definately be calling the junkyard tomorrow! hehe

::)Lot's of good info. The Ford 1/2 ton (early) wheels are a great idea. I got a set of 4 aluminum "10 hole" 5x5.5 15x8 for $100.00 in good shape. The backspacing is good as well. The early wheels have the same center hole size, but the 4x4 is a fairly certain fit. The 31x10.5 are a great fit on that rim size. Good luck. ;D

Oh yeah, speaking of backspacing, the Bronco has 3.75" backspacing (assuming the pickups are the same), which gives you about a half inch less backspacing.

WOOO! found 4 old f150 rims and need to paint them but i got all 4 for 20 bucks! ;D ;D
