Title: Free lift increase for Trackicks
Post by: bentparts on January 10, 2008, 05:20:18 PM
While working on trying to fit my new 33's on my Tracker, I noticed in the rear, the upper coil mount is angled upward, from the outside looking into the wheel well. After doing the Hagen rear axle rotation I've been debating the idea of re locating the upper coil mount anyway, but it was just too much of a PITA to cut off altogether. I took some measurements and found the outer edge of the upper coil mount is an inch higher than the inside edge against the frame. What I did is cut a wedge shaped slice an inch wide in the front, tapering down to a point in the rear, on both sides of the coil mount. Then I bent the top down to meet the sides, and welded everything back together. This effectively gave me an inch more lift in the rear by straightening up the coil, and lowering the top mount. The coil sits better too, no bowing in at all. With my OME spring, a 2" spacer and the dropped coil mount I now have about 3 3/4 - 4" lift in the back. I also relocated the upper and lower shock mounts as well. In the front, I'm using new Calmini Coils, 1.25" spacer with my modified a arms, and the hagen widening for about 3.5" of lift. I'll get some photos's up this weekend when I get my tires mounted.  Still trying to get these 33's on with just a 2" body lift and no cutting. We'll see.

A little off the subject but where did you get that jerry can holder Bentparts?  Did you replace the whole spare rack?

It's an adapter that sits between the wheel and rack. Got it from some outfit in Colorado, now closed. 4 Wheel outfitters I think.

How is the gas can mounted?  It looks optimal   I wish I had the skills to do all that you did

It seems to be pretty strong, I've trailed with it bunches of times, many thousands of Highway miles without a problem. It uses a standard Jerry can mount, the kind that clamps on top and bottom of the can. The adapter is basicly a flat surface to bolt the can holder to, which in turn slips into the reciever mounted to the tire carrier,  which is located on the wheel mounting studs, behind the tire. It allows it to be removed, holder and all, without removing the mount, or spare, while still being able to remove the spare. Hope that all makes sense. Thanks!

That is a really clean tracker, my frame is rotted out so bad my gas tank is about to fall out
