This is the schematic for an '02 XL-7 (manufactured in Japan).  No clue if it will help or not...

Just wired up my rally lights on my 99 GV.  One of the wires is WHITE, the other is red with a white stripe.  Unfortunately I don't remember which is which as I type this.  The wiring diagram is at work.

I think that white is positive power to the headlamp bulb all the time, and the red/white wire is the negative for the high beams (as long as the high beam switch is on).  I'm fairly certain but again I don't have the diagrams in front of me even though I just finished my lights 2 nights ago.  (Aimed them last night, love them!)

According to my '98 GV Service Manual (jp built vehicles):

RH supply - White/red
LH supply - White/blue

High beam ground via switch & Headlight Relay No. 1 - Red
Low beam ground via switch & Headlight Relay No. 1 - Red/white

Yep that's it!   ;)  I remember now.  I used the wiring for the right-side headlamp to trigger the relays for the rally lights since it's closer to the battery.
