Title: Need Some Help
Post by: fairfro69 on January 11, 2008, 01:49:37 PM
Hey i am new here. i have searched about my problem with no help

My Problem is my 1999 tracker 2 door 1.6L
it starts and idels fine u can rev it up but the revs go up slow if u pin it to the floor it just bogs
and if u try and drive it it bogs out and slows down its like being in 5th gear all the time no power at all
so far i have put new plugs, fuel filer air fiter .  checked the timing checked was good the EGR valve MAF sensor voltage. TPS sensor voltage everything is in spec also did a compression test 170 across all 4
there is no catalitic converter so it cant be pluged
it has no check engine light on.

i am running out of things????
only thing left is fuel pump?

anyone have any ideas?

Try a fuel pressure check.

With fuel pump operating and engine stopped 35.6 – 42.7 psi

At specified idle speed 29.8 – 37.0 psi

With 1 min. after engine (fuel pump) stop (Pressure reduces as time passes.) Over 25.6 psi

I agree with everyone, sounds like a fuel pressure problem.  Could be a line, filter or pump; check all of those.

One more thing to check - quick and simple - is the PCV valve.  Hard to believe that the little thing could cause such problems but trust me, it's happened to me before.  I had a Chevy S-10 that was showing the same symptoms as your tracker and it turned out to be a defective PCV valve!

To wide open of throttle can kill torque by not giving the air charge enough speed, how high in the RPMs are you moving to WOT? Does your kick have intake plenum baffles? (I ask because I don't know)If it does and they aren't opperating smoothly it could do the same.
While checking your PCV check your EGR valve as well. I have heard that they tend to plug or foul easily on those late modle kicks and could cuase the same problems. It should turn off the EGR completely under WOT. Also worn or cracked injectores could cause it to run to rich, plugged could mean to lean. Can you pull the rail and check to see if they all spray apropriatly? On that note how did the old plugs look when you pulled them?

thanks for all the help. i figured out the problem
it was the keyway in the crank is wore right out
causing it to be off in timing under load
so the crank is screwed the key is worn out.
threw in a new motor good as new >
