Title: Kick sport Clutch pedal stopper? plus, some switches i dont know what they do...
Post by: thcrw739 on January 11, 2008, 03:13:30 PM
I decided to combine this into one thread but its about 2 diffrent things...

#1  ever since i got my kick sport, i thought the clutch pedal was a to high, looking underneath the dash erlier i noticed that there is no adjust screw or stopper or what ever its called that keeps the clutch pedal from going to high, it just the metal piece were it screws in that its hitting, the actull screw is gone so i wondred what it was called so i can look for another one

I have the manual, but its so plain its made for all kicks & the x-90 so they made it very genral so these are not in it..
#2
i have 2 areas with switches or mechinisims im not sure what they do, one is a switch next to the dash light knob..
it has a little red light that comes on when i open the door but turns off after,  the actull switch wich is below that red light, has a little white dot i guess wich means its in the on postion, but i yet to figure out what it does..

the other thing is on the dirvers side on the bottom right its a square little box that has a wire going up under the dash, almost looks like somthing slides into it and it  has the words lockright or somthing like that on it...

Im sure these are a sidekick sport thing
these all look stock not after market...

Any info would be great...

Thanks

About your second question, neither are stock. The first switch is after market, might be part of an alarm thingie. And the second thing looks like it is an anti-theft device a lot of used car lots put on their rigs. It should have stickers on the door windows saying something about being protected by such and such anti-theft device. They have a little card that slides into it that has a circuit printed on it. You pull the card when you park the rig and it will not start. Just a fancy kill switch.

Might be wrong, been there before.

And that bolt should be called an adjustment bolt. My kick is an auto so I can not give you a length but if you can find out the length and thread count you can use a regular bolt with a lock nut in place of the stock one.

the locktronics box is exactly as phloop mentioned an antitheft device. it is a security key box. looks like its been bypassed though. if not you wouldnt be able to start the kick. the plug is for a key. if it was hooked up you wouldnt be able to start the vehicle without the security key plugged in. you can just remove it if you dont like it. it will only be tied into your ignition feed wire and a power source. maybe your locks if they are power locks. the ignition wire will be cut and this wired in between it. just connect the (same colored/size) wires back together if they arent already. im just guessing but i bet the little light and switch are tied into it somewhere. the reason it looks stock is that somebody actualy did a good job installing them. you could have an alarm under the dash also. it will be a small black box. if its ziptied in, its probably not stock.

The switch is the alarm override. You can turn off the alarm and not use it with that switch. The alarm and keyless entry system on the Sport was "factory" but looks like someone at a stereo shop put it on. You probably have a siren/horn under the hood mounted on the strut brace also. I took out the whole thing, it did not work well and was in the way. The other little box/plug in thing under the dash is as stated before a dealer lockout device.

There is a  supplement to the FSM for the Sports.  I found mine with a web search.

thanks for the info..

Yeah ive seen the alarm siren under the hood, its actully broke off from the bracket and lying inside a hole...

the black wire disconected and redwire going to soem sort of harness..

wasnt going to fiddle with it till i knew more...

didnt realise that switch was tied into it..

Not sure why a used car lot thing would be on a one owner prior to me buying it from the private party...  but who knows..

As for that clutch bolt..

The guys at the suzuki auto parts place couldnt figure out what i was talking about.. even after taking a picture and emailing it to them

its not in thier assembly drawing..

Steve,

That kind of anti-theft device was not only for used car lot's so the prior owner may have installed it because it is cheaper than a real car alarm.

And as far as that bolt goes, like I said just find the proper length and thread count and a lock nut and you are golden.

The parts place needs to look at the page that shows the clutch adjustment, it is shown there.

As long as the bolt is long enough, it will work......you can't really get too long of a bolt (within reason).  The bolt should be about 1", maybe 1 1/4" long.  The lock nut should be threaded on it before you screw it into the fixed nut on the bracket under the dash......then you adjust the bolt in or out until the pedal height is correct, then tighten the lock nut against the bracket, to hold the bolt in place......hopefully that all makes sense.

As for thread count, it is a metric bolt. I do not know the metric size but it is close to 1/4x20. That is a quarter inch bolt with coarse threads. And as for the length, it can be too long as the extra length will be behind the mount out of the way.

Thanks guys,

I'll see what i can find at the hardware store..

Still not sure on how much length i need to set it to proper hight,

I assume at the point right before i feel i need to apply more pressure on the pedal to push it down with my hand...

You will need to have a bolt around 2-3" long. The nut is used to lock the bolt at the correct length/height. The clutch pedal should be at the same height as the brake pedal.

If the clutch is still loose feeling you may need to adjust the clutch cable it at the tranny.

On mine the bolt sticks out about 1/2"-3/4" from the piece with the fixed nut on it that the bolt threads into (that length includes the head of the bolt....which is not included when measuring bolt length.....for example, a 1" long bolt will measure 1" from the tip of the bolt to the bottom of the head).
Mine is on a 4 door, so your bracketry may be a little different and require a different length bolt......but as mentioned the clutch pedal is supposed to set just level or slightly higher than the brake pedal....so you should be able to hold the clutch pedal in the approximate position then measure to see how long of a bolt you will need to work.

Nearest metric size to a 1/4 is M6, M6 is usually a 1mm thread.

So by your meashurements , sounds like the bolt is only about an inch and a quarter to a inch and a half long?
