Title: Noisy fuel pump.
Post by: 96Kicker on January 12, 2008, 09:13:41 PM
I did a 1.6 16valve swap into my samurai and used the external fuel pump that aftermarket4x4 recomended. That darn thing is so noisy if drives me nuts. I even wrapped it in foam when secured to the body. Is their any less noisy pumps or a better way to mount them?

Take it off the body and mount it to the frame near by and add more foam and leave it as loose as possible or get a real big stereo.

Keeping the tunes turned up when around town is no big deal , but when I go wheeling I like to listen to things. I mounted it just like the picture on aftermarket4x4's web site.

So tell me about this other pump you have pictured here?

It's another pump some guys run from summit racing and a few other places carrie it also, just a high pressure self priming pump, you have to get it off of the body or it will drive you crazy you could try just mounting it by the hose on each side the pumps do not weight much and are cooled by the fuel.

I had the same problem I just couldnt deal with the noise . Do yourself a favor , try to find a later model fuel injected samurai gas tank (used or new) . The samurai fuel pumps are the same as the tracker, 1990 to 1998 16v  it is the hanger unit thats different . I had mine for 3 years now not a single problem and no noise at all . You can double check at autozone.com . search for a 95 tracker fuel pump and a 92 samurai fuel pump.  I believe the pt # is E2111 or check here :

I did a quick search in the OR area and is seems like http://www.bandkautosalvage.com/  has 1

Good luck !
