Is a steering stabilizer recommended when you put on larger tires??..89 Tracker, 9.50X30 tires. If so, where is a good place to buy one for a Tracker-Kick??..
-
It helps!

I doubt if you'll need a stabiliser with 30" tyres. If you have a problem then you should check the sterring linkages and joints for play and have your alignment checked. I haven't got one and I'm running 33 x 9.5s with 2" spring lift and a 3" bodylift.
-
i have 31"s on and i get a fair bit of bump steer on rough tracks at low speed (maybe due to offset wheels). at faster speeds, it doesn't really bother me me.
and i don't have power steering on the bloody thing.
i wouldn't mind a steering stabilizer, especially one of those return to centre ones. (like a coil over)
-
I'm running 31's and play on the rocks and mean large loose stuff fairly frequently.
When I put the stabilizer on, I seemed to break my stearing linkage a little less often.
-
Thanks for the info you guys,, I may go with the stabilizer to be on the safe side. I dont do any rock crawling but do get in some tough places fiishing..
-
But if you want to run the front diff skid plate, you'll need the steering stabilizer mount anyways.
And thats an importent skidplate to have. (along with all the others.) ;D
-
Good point, I am going to put a front skid plate on (when I find one at a reasonable price).. Does the truss I see mentioned needed also with the plate and stabilizer??
-
The stabilizer is part of the truss. You can't have one with out the other ;D
From Calmini
Our all new front skid plate is design and purpose built for trail use. Our skid attaches to the CALMINI front truss

Anyone have pics of the installed truss/stabilizer?

i had the truss bar installed when i installed the lift, but didn't put the dampener in until last month. i noticed a big enough difference with it on, a lot less bump steer both on road, and off-road. i'm running 30x10.5 on a calmini 3" suspension lift.

Have a look at my webpage for some truss/stabilizer/skid plate pics 8)

Thanks for the great pictures!!(worth a thousand words)..
That really answers my question.... :) :D ;D

The dampener attaches to the sway bar? Well, that's no good since I threw mine out a while ago... :-/
I might make a truss myself, though, since I can do it cheaper than paying Calmini to do it + shipping

Nope. It mounts to the bracket from Calmini and to the steering link.
-
I attached my front skid plate using a piece of 2" x 2" angle iron instead of the steering truss - much cheaper.

How about when you remove the bolts from the control arms to get the truss in ?,, I looked in the Chiltons and I assume you have the frame sitting on jack stands, then put a floor jack under the arms just enough to take the pressure off ?.

It'd probably be safest just to unbolt the strut and take out the spring... then you don't have anything to really worry about happening
-
No, I don't want to take the springs out!! Those were a real chore getting in when I put the spacers on..Looks to me like, leave the weight on the wheels as the car sits, then put a floor jack under the junction of the lower arms where the bolt is, then undo it..Have to look at this some more before I have front end parts all over the garage..
