My new tracker has air conditioning. I notice that like most 4 cyl cars it is a dog with the A/C on. Do you end up using your A/C or just going topless?
-
I use the AC in my X-90 and used it in the Tracker before I started stripping it. It does bog down the motor some, but I just deal with it.

My A/C didn't work very well with the top off. ;D ;D

Living in Florida I have to use it! When it is rainy (all summer) I leave the top on and use the AC when I need it. I try to kick it off when I have to move out from a stop light then hit the button kicking it on when I am up to speed and that seems to help reduce the draaaaaaaaag!
In the nicer fall and winter and spring I am running top down or just the sides and back off for shade and rarely need the AC.
It works fine on a hot day but its no luxury car for sure.
I am glad I have it and can suffer the engine drag for the convenience.
-
I use mine here in so. cal ;D
-
I do.
If I have co-workers or family or friends riding along, it makes conversation much easier than with the windows down.
If I'm by myself and it's 95 degrees or more, I'll use it.
If it's a warm day and raining and the windows will fog up without it, I'll use it.
I guess I'm saying that I think A/C is a nice option to have (especially here in VA) and under certain conditions it is worth the power it consumes.
BTW, I'm going to have to try to convert my R12 system to R134. I guess after 15 years the system has lost enough freon to keep the compressor from coming on. At least it happened when the major summer heat was over :-/

If I'm going to be driving in town with lots of stops and starts, I'll use the AC. But get me out on the open road where I can get some wind and I prefer to go topless! I just hate being closed in anymore than I have to!

LilRed, Topless....... ::)

I yanked the AC out when I bought my tintop... so no topless, just windows down ;)
-
I gave mine away.
Didn't want the Draaaaaaaaaaaag. ;)

theres some stuff here in bc canada that can be used in r12 applications but is perfectly legal... its sort of a cross between r134a and r12
the brand ive heard of is "red-tek"
might help ya, Andrew

answer to the question 'dp i use my A/C?'
well, no. i guess it would help if i had A/C though.
where i live, it gets pretty damn hot, like before the wet season here, theres a period called "the Build up". this is now. and the humidity gets up to about 80%, and temp is about 34-36*celsius. don't know what that is in F.
but seeing as i'm used to the heat, i almost always go top down in the cooler months (dry season). other wise i run without a back window, and windows down. and the sun really burns you up, literally, like, i don't get red from sun burn, or peel, i just get really dark, meaning i got roasted.
i'm getting a new top made as i type, might be ready in a couple of days, and window tinting (5% light transmission) is next on the cards. tint really helps.

Well I use my a/c all year round... seriously, and I live in Canada. Nothing like going to the local Max store, paying for my slushy and stepping back into the -50 weather.
You know your Canadian when...

Oh yeah, and I was going to say that I had hated using the A/C because of the drag on the car... lugging and being a general bitch. When I threw in the performance K&N filter, there was no drag and the scented oil from it cleansed the sticky ass air from my kick. No more drag, just replace your stupidly thick paper air filter with a nice thin (and everlasting) performance filter. Green or red, you choose. I guarentee that you will see the difference. I'm using my heater when it gets really cold in the morning, and last year (pre-filter swap) I had a hell of a time warming up the kick. But now, it heats better than ever. That filter was the best 75 bucks I have ever spent.
