ok the trucks running but it keeps blowing a fuse, it is a blue on the closest the the drivers door i think its the fuel injecter fuse? why would it keep blowing on me?
-
The only time I blow a fuze is
when the alternator wire touched
and grounded out, the engine would
crank but not start, and it is an instant
pop as soon as the ignition is turned
on the fuse blows
-
Which blue one is it?
The top fuse is for your right headlight.
The bottom one is for your Ignition system and warning indicator lights.
You may have a short circuit somewheres caused from an exposed wire.
Not sure if your CD player would be causing it, but if its hooked to your ignition powerfeed (so it turns off when you shut the truck off) then it might be blowing the fuse too. (though don't quote me on that)
-
ok it is the bottom blue one, i just went out for a drive and it hasnt blown again, ill let ya knwo in a bit
-
Cool to hear you got it running, what was wrong? Did you find out why you blew the fuse?
Zig
-
no im not sure why it was blowing fuses, i put a new one in and its not doing it anymore ??? so hopefully it doesnt, im takin it to mechanics today and gonan figure out why it was blowing them.
-
it might have just been that u had wear fuses..i had that happen a few times with i did HVAC id just get duds
-
nah its still blowing fuses, i left it in the mechanics shop at school so i can work on it tommorw, i was reading in my repair manual and apparently the cd player is not on the same fuse as the ign, coil switch (the one that keeps blowing) so i was reading and all the warning lights run on that fuse (ign. coil switch) all my warning lights work but my seat belt one, my teacher said there could be a short in that so that could be the problem, hopefully i will get it figgured it out soon.
-
any more suggestions would be nice ;D
-
ok, my mechanics teaher thauhgt that it may be my cd player, so i disconected that, it is still blowing the fuses, i checkd all my wires and i didnt see anything abnormal, any other ideas?
-

Is it the right AMP rated fuse in that socket?
-
It's an intermitant problem,
check the alternator connection
and get a circuit breaker, that way
it will reset after the short has
got back to normal

circut breaker?
-
Ya, try Autozone in the Fuse
department, it'a a metal fuse
size box with legs just like the
fuse, put it in where the blown
fuse is, now when there is a short,
it breaks the circuit, when it cools
it makes contact and the circuit
will work again, unless there is
a short still, then it will open again.
It's good protection and cost $5.00
Most Semi Trucks have these instead
of fuses, some are manual reset, like
in your house, but just a little pin that
you push back in, the little silver box kind
are automatic reset, really cool and you
will never have a fuse worry again

Sounds like youve got a bad pre-heater on your O2 sensor. To double check this unplug the O2 and see if it happens again. The check engine will come on though. The repair is to replace the O2.
Mike
-
so it coudl be the o2 censor cuasing me troubles,
wild i will tyr a fuse liek u suggested
-
if i replace the O2 censor this shoudl stop the problems?
what does a o2 censor cost?
-
I know of 3 people that had this exact thing happen to them on 8 valve trackicks. Thats the fuse it blew and it was the 02. $50 or so to replace if you do it yourself. Double check and see if your o2 has 3 wires comming out of it. 2 wires will be the same color, they are the preheater. Those 2 wires can be cut and the o2 will still work, it just wont have a preheater.
Mike
-
wut does the pre- heater do?
-
and my check engine light is on now, cars running fine minus the fuse blowage, is this cuz of the censor probly?
-
It preheats the o2. :P I dont know when or why! Wild probabally knows though! ;D

Id just unplug it and see if it happens again, if not then we have a winner! ;)
Mike
-
unplug what? the engine light? i hear there is a switch for it, where is it?
-

No unplug the o2
-
Ya. I know
The pre heater or just heater
keeps the O2 sensor at a constant
temp, and gets it there faster so
emissions are lower, especially at
cold startup
;D
Wild
-
i dont really care about my emmissions :o so i think i will cut the 2 pre-heater wires and see if that works, or acutally ill take out the sensor for a bit and see if it works, if it does, i will cut the wires
-
Don't cut all of the wires :o
your trucklet will run badly
and use too much gas, you
can cut the heater wires or
replace it with a 1 wire sensor
from a wrecked car, much cheeper
Wild
-
ya sorry, i ment cut the 2 pre-heater wires like mike suggested, first im gonan try driving it wiht out the o2 censor in and see if it keep blwoing fuses
-
Ahh, I missread your post
:)
Wild
-
you probly coudltn undertsand the post due to my spelling ;D
-
;D it was my o2 censor, i unpluigged it yesterday and i ahve driven it quit abit and it is not blowing the fuse any more, so i will just get a new one.
-
Sweeeetttt!!!! Running again ;D Mike you da Man :-*
BTW, Mike, did you get your sisters going yet?
Zig
