yyeah thats one way to go... but i only spent like 40 bucks on a 4" 60 ft strap
-
how many pounds do u guys usally go with?
-
well i've had my strap through 3 rigs. a bronco w/ 8" lift and 38"s it pulled it out many times.... still pullin.
-
and whats the diffrance from rated and breaking strength y do they have both thanks
-
welll i don't know as far as strenght on mine... its tough as hell though. its like 80,000lbs i think
-
also with that high of a rateing is the sttreching worthless due to the thracke being so light
-
mine still stretches. but if your wanting to do the stretch and snatch thing use a tire.
-
ok thanks i just wanted to make sure if i give the truck a little yank i dont get thrown into the dash like a chain

When we go out we generally have a couple of pull straps. The bigger rigs have the full size with loops only. They are a much stronger end and won't rip the ends off like the tow straps with the hooks do.
I however just carry a 10,000 with hooks simply because it is much easier to use then the others. It takes only a moment to throw on a rig, and most of the time you only need a quick tug.
I believe the rated strength of a tow rope is the amount of weight you can pull on a regular basis, where the break rating is at what point you will probably break your strap. Remember, pulling a 2,000 lb vehicle out of a hole will sometimes take over 6,000 lbs of pull strength. Not to mention the initial shock from when the strap first hits.
If you do a lot of "Connect up, hit throttle, bounce in the air, back up, try again" then you will probably want a rope with a bit of stretch so it can absorb the shock. :)

i know its redneck but if you are wanting stretch use 2 tow straps with a tire in the middle.... no beating your face on the dash.

Who has the extra room for hauling a tire around? I sure don't, plus I don't go out planing to get stuck but I do carry a couple of strecth type straps hooked together and they work great, the kind with the hooks my club will not allow.
-
i put it on top
-
not planning to get stuck. just prepaired

the kind with the hooks my club will not allow.
A lot of people hold this stance, mainly for safety reasons and I understand their point. But it is always amusing on the trail when the strap with the hooks gets pulled out every time someone needs a tug just so we don't have to bother unhooking the clevis every time. :)
If a vehicle is really stuck we usually just break out the winch rather then trying to tug them out. If we had full size rigs I would probably take a different stance on the tow straps.

While at work today my buddy got his Nissan pickup stuck.... I was able to pull him out with a 4x4 Honda quad and a tow strap.

I get mine from Wheelers. They support the Samurai Community.

We use nylon cable, the same one that they use to attach fishing boat!! about a 1' thick....there though enough to pull big truck and they have good elasticity in it
-
i use to have a 3" nylon i found out at the base.... worked awesome..... got stolen
