Title: 1.5'' and 2 '' coil spacers help!
Post by: johnjx on February 09, 2008, 10:36:56 AM
just an F.Y.I my internet is down so i can only check my mial only so often but please juts use this site for mailing or johncjc101|removethispart|@hotmail.com.

But anyways i was talking to jeff, the guy that c ustom makes coil spacers. i am bvuying a set, 2- 1.5'', and 2-2''. i know i need to flip ,my front struts to get that extra inch of travel. i can reply back to him but he said i need to get shocks for the back? but i wasnt sure if u meant better shocks or actual shocks cuase my kick uses coils and shocks in front and back.

also i was curois about calmini axels. i went to lowranged4x4.com. and they were selling axels about 120 each but i noticed there were talking about drivers side and passenger side but my kick in the rear use independent axel, just like a truck, but the front is standerard, help me out?!

You have your terms mixed up.  You have a Solid rear axle and an IFS front.  :)

For rear shocks, he meant you'll want longer ones, otherwise you'll have your 2" lift but no increased downtravel.  Crown Vic shocks are popular replacements.  It's not something that you absolutely need to do when you put the spacers in, but since you're there anyway, you might as well.

You have struts in the front, which are basically reinforced shock absorbers.  Look like shocks, act like shocks, but are struts that, unlike shocks, actually hold stuff together.  What you'll be flipping is the strut mount, what the strut bolts to at the top.

You technically have four axles on the truck:  Two half-shafts with CV joints (for your independent front suspension, or IFS) in the front, and two half-shafts in the rear, which are inside the solid axle housing and run from each wheel to the differential.

Unless you are breaking your axles, there's no need to replace them.

You'll want to buy any shock for the "Ford Crown Victoria car", like a Monroe sensitrac or another brand of shock.  They are longer extended length and that will allow more down travel of the rear suspension.
We all had to learn somewhere... most of us were green at one time.  We all can learn from eachother. HTH  ;D

I just slapped in the OME lift, and need to get new shocks. Any thoughts on brand of shock? I hear going for the cheapest (for light valving on our light trucks) NAPA is a good option.

johnjx
i used bottom line monroe shocks.
i found some for the rear of a mustang(i forget the year-|removethispart|@84?) that fit real well- same bush size on the bottom and |removethispart|@2" longer.
your parts store will probably let you peruse the monroe catalog that has the specs.(it shows extend/compress lengths and mount types).
i'm still using the stock struts up front. i flipped the mount and spaced it a little more.
the crown victoria shocks seem real popular- i thought the mustang was probably a lighter car and i was concerned |removethispart|@ stiffness.
i understand some people use rear econoline van shocks also.
