Title: Rear Diff Question
Post by: ultra-rebel on February 13, 2008, 07:54:23 AM
I pulled the rear diff to weld er up and it looks like a limited slip diff. There are no visible side gears like other diffs I have taken apart and I dont want to disassemble if I dont have to.

Can someone tell me if this is in fact a LS or do I have to pull it apart to get at and weld the gears

This is a standard diff. I can see the side gears in the photos. The spiders are webbed which is why it looks funny to you. I wouldnt dissasemble the diff to weld it. I just weld what I can see in the windows and call it good. Its always worked for me.

No,  after removing the diff there are four 1" windows.  I just cranked up the old Lincoln and welded the dff through the windows.
I did however find that welded diffs on ice are very scary on these little trucks. I dont think I would do it on my DD
