I have a 98 Sidekick 2 door 4x4 with the 3 speed auto transmission and would like to improve my gas mileage with a 3 speed auto transmision with overdrive and would like to know if this can be done and what will it take to do it. Thanks for all replys

If you are talking about using the 4 speed auto from a 4 door you are talking a lot of modification.
Wiring harness will need to change as well as the ECU.
The front and rear drivelines will need to be modified.
You will need a different transfercase skidplate.
Transfercase shifter is different, further back.
Different transmission shifter.
All in all, not really worth doing the swap.
What kind of mileage are you getting that you consider poor that you think that would help? What mods do you already have in your existing setup?

dont spend 300$ on getting better mpg of only 1or 2 mpg waste of cash zukes get pretty decent mpg out the gate not enuff buy a prius

Not to mention that the 4-dr 4 speed flex plate has a larger center hole and has 5 bolts holding it to the torque converter. Unless the harness is changed, it will not shift automatically. You will have low and 4th and must move the shifter from low to high when you take off. I learned from experience. It is definitly not worth the effort.

A sidekick should get better than 22mpg. lil Suzy got 30 when she was new, She gets 23 now with a tired engine 31X12.50 boggers, lockers and 7" of lift. First place I would look is at the injector, or injectors depending on what year it is. If an injector goes bad it will not fully atomize the fuel and cause poor performance and bad mileage
