I just picked up a decent condition used 93 Samurai for $200, but it's got a locked up engine. According to the previous owner, it was knocking really badly when they parked it in the garage something like 6 months ago. Anyways, I've read on RRO's site about how the 8 valve 1.6 is a pretty simple swap needing mainly just the adapter plate and a motor mount. Anybody have any insight on this or experience with the swap?
Anybody happen to have a running 1.3FI or 1.6 8 valve engine they'd be willing to part with for my cheap wheeler cause?

Try a search on this issue (1.6 swap) and you should get a lot of hits. ;)
Post a wanted add for the 1.6 or 1.3 ;)
I believe I recall Zukers happy with the Petroworks kit for the swap due to clearance issues and quality of the kit. If you go with the 1.6 and need to get rid of the old 1.3 EFI components let me know ;D

Awesome link, CZ, thanks! $875 shipped for a fresh engine sounds great, but a little too much for the budget. I might have to just tear this one down and try to rebuild it....

I have a good running 1.3 carb. that I'll get rid of cheap. If you want a carburated mill instead that is.

Couldn't I just swap my TBI and intake over to it to have FI back? How much do you want for it? At this point I mainly just want to get my sammi running!
-
Digger,
You have to use the TBI manifold, which should bolt to the new motor, and use the distributor out of the 92. The motor has a header too that I don't need because it won't work with my 16V. You can have the motor for $150, or the motor and header for $200. I think you are in Pa, right? I am in Buffalo, so I could meet you in Erie or something. I'll have it out next week, so maybe next Sunday would work.
-
When you say the distributor out of the 92, I'm assuming you mean your engine because mine's a 93. If my fuel injection TBI and manifold will work, then I'm definately interested! Let me see what I can do to raise the funds(I would probably want the header, too, but have to see how much $$$ I can raise) as I just spent this month's rent buy the sammi. LOL! How many miles are on it? Meeting in Erie would probably be cool as I have family there I wanted to visit soon. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.

No, typo.  You need to use your distributor.  Let me know when you got the $$.  The motor is yours.  If it takes you a couple weeks that's fine.  More time for me to get it out ;D. ÂÂ

I got the money and you got all the time you need cause I'm in no real hurry. I definately want it and have scraped up the money, so just let me know whenever it's out and you wanna meet.
How many miles are on it?
A question for anyone that might know: Do the carb sammi's still use an ecm or only the FI ones? If after swapping over my intake I find out my ecm is bad, can I just swap back to the carb and still run it?
-
not sure about the ecm question but the reason you have to use your dist. is because its electronic advance and works in cunjunction with your ecm. Law Dogs is old school mechanical/vacum advance. We did a similar swap on the Real Red Sammi his truck is a 91fi very easy ;)
-
Cool, I'm really looking forward to getting my sammy up and running(my son is, too! LOL!). Please shoot me an email or PM with an update on the engine. Thanks.
Does anyone else know does the carb engine need an ecm to run like the FI ones do? If so, how many wires are involved in the swap in case my ecm turns out to be bad after swapping my intake and distributor over?
