Title: Strut spacer?
Post by: Yote on February 18, 2008, 04:04:05 PM
When doing only a 1.5" coil spacer on the front of a Tracker do you need to put a strut spacer in after flipping it? Thanks

You still need to put something in there, the bottom side of the strut mount has a rolled edge, so you need to fill it so you don't distort the mounting surface when you tighten the bolts. I used 2 3-bolt exhaust flanges on each side, they fit perfect to the strut plate, and they were only $5 each. I also drilled the holed out to 3/8" to use bigger bolts.  They are 2.5" or 3" exhaust flanges, can't remember now...

Thanks MaD.72 it worked that time, Uncivilized do you remember what vehicle the exhaust flanges came from? And I'm guessing they were for a V8?

I'm pretty sure they were common for a Chevy, but they let me look through their stock wall, I had the strut mount with me. It was a exhaust/brakes/tires shop, called Mighty Muffler & Brake

Another prob. stupid question, with coil spacers does it matter if they are on top or bottom of the springs, I've seen pics of people mounting them both ways so is there a right/wrong way?

My Buddie made some strut spacers out of exhaust flanges with a piece of tube welded in between.  Slapped some fresh black paint on it and there it in, Looks good and works just fine!
