Title: what transfer case gears to buy
Post by: dres0081 on February 19, 2008, 05:29:56 PM
I have a 88 samurai running 33s, I am thinking of getting 6.5:1 gears from RRO but am open for suggestions. why is RROs price for gears so much lower than calmini?

Calmini is pretty pricey stuff, if you want to save some coin.  You could get the Trail-gear 6.5:1 there 499.  Cheaper than calmini and it has a life time warranty on it.  Cant beat that.
I think it would have to do with your preference to brands, lots of Toyota guys dislike trail gear.
Has something to do with they borrowing marlin crawlers products.
RRO has some half assed shipping, seems to take quite a bit longer than other places.

The 6.5:1 should be plenty.   My cousin has 33" tires with stock gears and the 8:1 kit and loves it, still has plenty of power for running on the road.  They have the same high range, so you should be able to do 55+ as long as your engine is in good shape.

Friend of mine had the 6.5:1 with stock 3.73 R&p turning 33" tires.  He slapped a fresh new motor in it and it would hit about 55-60 Mph, it never liked to go over 3000 rpms.  Could of been his motor, i was thinking it could of been the fact that he removed ever vac hose from his carb, except for the advance.  But ya never know.
