Title: carb cuts out in cold weather
Post by: thorlof on February 22, 2008, 10:10:05 AM
i have an 88 samurai with the 1600cc bottom block and a 1300cc head running a torque cam and a webber carb   altogether it gives me just under 100 hp

i am getting horrible gas millage but i think thats the cam

on cold days 30 +-  after the choak cuts off the motor starts missing runs horrible no power, back fires and carb pops,  it dies every time the motor drops under 1000rpm.

i maid a mock up preheater and it solved all the problems.

does any one have any ideas on other solutions   or causes

Carb icing. I take it you don't have the original hose from the exhaust to the airbox?

Don't give him any ideas. He doesn't need encouragement in this area.  ;D

I thought that the pre heater was solving the problem with that carb icing up?

its an open air carb and air cleaner

i rigged together a pree heater and it worked pretty good although with all the exhaust leeks it has i was getting a lot of carbon up and into the air filter

hemmm jets
those would help me on the freeway.
throw it in neutral and kick on the turbines.
i might need a second gas tank and a hand throttle or something
it could work

I can just see it now.  I will help yu fab it up but, you have to supply the parts and the video camera. I just have to get the crash...er...test fire on video.
