Post by: SkipTLoo on February 22, 2008, 07:01:06 PM
???I just purchased a 86 Samurai which has a spring over lift and wheel spacers.....how could i get better articulation from my samurai....longer shocks??

???second question what speeds do samurai's get up to?  Mine has a hard time getting up to speed sluggish and sucks down gas and is running rich 12mpg...new carb would solve this prob?

Sounds to me like you need to re-gear it, if it's the stock motor then it's only a 1.3 and it wasn't meant for speed, and a new carb prob. wouldn't hurt either.

Skip,
Holy smoke... 12mpg that's not good. My 86 will get up to 75mph with a tail wind. My stock Hitachi Carburetor went south on me a few months ago so I went for the Weber Samurai kit. I haven't checked my mileage as of yet but it seems good.  It sure goes like a bat out of hell now.

It depends on what is limiting your flex.  The best way to test your shocks is to pull them off, then flex out your rig on a makeshift ramp or in a ditch.  Or even with a jack.  This will allow you to measure just how much movement your suspension gives you.  The easiest way to put longer shocks on is with a Ford F-250 Shock Tower, just cut your existing shock tower off and weld on the new one.  Then take measurements on what height and travel you need in your new shock, then hit the shock book at your local parts store.

For the gears, I would just look at picking up new Transfer Case gears.  4.8 or so for 31" tires, 5.8 or so for 32", 6.5 or so for 33".  :)
