I recently installed used power steering (91 sidekick) in my stock DD 94 tracker. The guys at the local parts store told me to use ps fluid not dex III. Of course now I wonder why it does not work at all like my 98 kicks ps. It takes several minutes of driving to feel like ps and even then starting a left turn is way harder than a right turn. Installing it just before we hit -40 was not a good idea. The pitman arm was off when I bought it so I installed it centered on left to right rotation as best I could. I've searched several times and haven't found any answers other than the ps fluid being dexIII.
So ps fluid was a mistake?
What gives with this harder to start to turn left?
Does pitman arm location on shaft have any effect on the start to turn effort?

You could drain it and change out what fluid you can but I think that the steering box has some rust in it or dirt and or sitting too long.

Could be a valving problem in the box itself. Allowing more assist one way and less the other.

changing fluid is not too bad to do, but what can I do if the valves are sticking? I have no fear of taking it apart, the manual steering can always go back in.
Almost forgot how much fluid goes in a stock system?
